In July, John Thomas gave an impressive presentation on how to recognize medical emergencies on the water. He provided common sense tip on how to recognize a stroke or a heart attack even when the symptoms are subtle. He has several stories of experiences that have occurred while operating his charter (John Thomas Adventures) that required immediate return to port and the decisive action was likely responsible for his clients full recovery and returning to fish another day. He also shared information on the various sea sickness solutions and his experience with how effective each one is.
In August, we returned to the way things used to be. We did not have a meeting, but we did have our traditional Salmon derby. About 25% of our participants weighed in a fish this year. Every person who fished the derby and chose to be at the present at the ceremony went home with some sort of prize. This writer was working the Des Moines weigh-in station and our eventual winner was ready when I started accepting fish at 8am. Brantley, age 13, caught his first ever salmon which won the derby weighing in at 18.75 lbs. Smiles were wide and all around.
For September, we are behind on getting things done. We will have a meeting as usual, and a speaker, but keep an eye on the website for an update on the specifics.
In somber news, a heartfelt condolences to our VP, Terry Stout.
We welcome all members and first-time guests to join us once again on the third Wednesday of the month (except August) for our general meetings. Membership is only $35.00 dollars for the year and is good for an individual or family. Doors open at 6:00 PM & the meeting starts at 6:30 PM. Every club meeting we run our raffle open to all, and we go around the room sharing our recent fishing reports.
